Our church puts on an incredible VBS (Vacation Bible School) each year that is called ... Summer Spectacular. It is waaaay more than VBS used to be when I was growing up. We are very blessed to be involved with a church that puts so much into loving & teaching children ... and we know so much more about it now that we have Kendall in the children's programs.
This Summer Spectacular's theme was Noah: God Keeps His Promises ... and it was amazing! This was Kendall's 1st SS and our 1st SS as a family. (We didn't get to do SS last year as we were on vacation, so we were really excited about being involved this time.) We signed up to help in Kendall's 2 year old class. Since SS has grown so much over the years, they've added a 2nd session ... so they have 3 nights (Sun-Tues) for session 1 and then a repeat of 3 nights (Wed-Fri) for session 2. They needed volunteers for both sessions, so we helped in the 2's all 6 nights. Each night, we had class time for 1 hour, then the parents would pick up their kids & go to the auditorium for the night's act of the Musical ... a complete Broadway-style musical, telling the story of Noah & His ark, all set to popular music with lyrics re-written, an accompanying band, choreography, costumes & a stage set! It truly is amazing how much planning, writing, work and rehearsal goes into making the Musical each summer. It is Spectacular!
The Musical is broken up into 3 Acts, one for each night ... but we, as volunteers, got invited to the VIP showing ... all 3 Acts in one night, Saturday. (It was really nice to see the Musical all in one night, so that the 6 nights of SS we could go home by 8, to start Kendall's night-time routine.) This was their official dress rehearsal & they did great! As a pre-SS thank you, all the volunteers enjoyed a pizza dinner, then the show. Even though it started at 7p and ended at 10:45p, Kendall LOVED every second of it! When a song would end, she would say "more! more!" The animals (and their costumes) were amazing and very entertaining for Kendall.
After the Musical, all the animals & cast of Noah & his family were out in the lobby to greet everyone & sign autographs. Since it was 10:45p (a little past Kendall's bedtime!), Kendall & Daddy stayed to see a few of the animals, before heading home ... I stayed to take more pictures & get all the autographs of the 8 main cast members on Kendall's shirt (which is the popular thing to do among the kids).
our friend, Gracie, as a skunk (Left) ... we had her sweet son, Dre, in our 2's class with us during session 1 |
one of Kendall's sweet nursery teachers, Sarah as an elephant ... she also works with Upwards sports with Ash so we get to see her there too |
Next up ... our 6 nights of 2 year olds ... oh my!
