Happy Birthday, GranGran!

Getting a visit from Huni & GranGran is always special ... we only get to see them in person once or twice a year, normally, since they live (as missionaries in the Ukraine) "far, far away" as Kendall says. This year, they were flying out of DFW Airport back to the Ukraine, so they came to our house for 1.5 days to pack before heading out. During their time with us, GranGran celebrated a birthday ... a big one ... his 65th one! And I cannot truly express how excited his sweet 2.5 year old granddaughter was to celebrate it!

Kendall is soooo into birthdays right now ... it's like she's started to figure it out, since mine in November.  She loves getting birthday party invitations in the mail & loves going to all her little friends' parties.  She loves the happy birthday song ... sings it all.the.time ... taking turns who's name she's singing to! She plays with her Leap Frog birthday candle cake daily. She is counting down to her birthday in May ... and although she doesn't quite understand the concept of months at this point, she knows that after Mommy's bday, it's Mason's, then GranGran's, the girls' (Hannah & Sadie), Daddy's (and Uncle B's ... twins & the sharing of bdays is another difficult concept), then her's ... with a few other friends & other family members in the midst of all those, too ... we were just trying to make it a bit simpler for our excited 2 year old! To say the least, this girl was VERY excited to be celebrating GranGran and singing Happy Birthday to him!

While Huni & GranGran were coming in from their last speaking engagement, we made GranGran a special chocolate cake ... and Kendall helped with all of it! She could hardly wait for them to arrive so she could show him his cake!  (Since we didn't have 65 candles, we just had six on one side and five on the other!)

After cake & ice cream, what's a little party without presents? Proudly wrapped in a Minnie Mouse gift bag (of course, Kendall had picked that out, as well), she could hardly wait for him to open it up ... so much so, I think she ended up opening it as she was handing him the bag ... you know, sweet little granddaughters get away with so much! He got a new movie on DVD that we had pre-ordered for him ... one we highly recommend, not for the acting, but for the awesome message ... Courageous. They had not seen it yet, so we watched it that night after Kendall was in bed.

Happy 65th Birthday, GranGran! We were thrilled to be together to celebrate your big day!

Build A Bear with cousin Rylie

To celebrate cousin Rylie's 3rd birthday, we went to Build A Bear Workshop! It was Kendall's (and our) first time to Build A Bear ... and it was as awesome (or maybe even more-so) than I'd imagined the experience would be. An experience that she will want to have again ... pretty soon!

For the party, we had our own Build A Bear party leader that helped each of the kids get to each station to make their special new bear. First, everyone picked out the bear (animal) they wanted to make ... oh the choices ... there were sooo many cute bears, dogs, bunny rabbits (and cats, if you like cats).  Kendall finally settled on a pink & white teddy bear with sprinkles on all four paws and her ears and a special sprinkled cookie in one of her paws (shocker that she picked pink, I know!  but she really did pick it out herself and could not be persuaded by anything else).  Then, each bear had to be named ... Daddy kind of helped her with this ... a little team work ... they thought of a few cute options, and she decided on "Sprinkles" ... she was nearly named "pink bear" but since she already has pink bear at home, we talked her into picking a different name for this pink bear.  So, Sprinkles it is!

All lined up and ready to stuff their bears!  Kendall looooved hanging out with her cousins, especially Ashleigh ... and Ashleigh was just the sweetest to her, looking out for her and helping her out with anything she possibly could.

At the bear stuffing machine ... putting in their bear's heart

They each passed around a special heart & chanted "stuff that bear" during each child's turn ... everyone did really good waiting patiently for each child's turn.  Kendall loved getting her turn to go to the stuffing machine and pressing on the pedal to stuff Sprinkles.

Next, the party bunch moved to the bath tubs to wash their new bears ... Kendall & cousin Tyler take their turn.  Then the final step ... picking out an outfit ... more choices to make ... Kendall finally got it picked out and dressed.

Here is Rylie's birthday party crowd ... with their new bears!

Happy Birthday, Rylie!

Donuts with Dad ... 2 year old edition

Today at our preschool, it was "Donuts with Dad" day ... and Kendall could not have been more proud to have her Daddy bring her to school, see her classroom, eat a donut breakfast together and sing & sit together in Chapel!  This girl loves her Daddy!  (And eating donuts didn't hurt either!)  Apparently she consumed "a few donut holes" ... since I was busy with other students in my class, I wasn't able to watch her & I guess they both lost count!  It's her 4th or 5th time to have a donut, so I think she was taking advantage of that!  Ha!  Oh well, it was a special occasion, at least.

Each class makes a different special craft for their Dads ... this year the 2's classes made this sweet little card:

It was a fun special morning for the 2 of them!  We are so thankful to have such a sweet Daddy and that he is in a job position where he could go into work late to come be with us this morning!

some Saturday fun

Today we had a busy fun family day.

We started off the morning with a pajama & donuts 4th birthday party for one of Kendall's besties, Ryllie ... it was at our indoor playscape at church and everyone had a blast!  (And Kendall LOVED the donut & donut hole she ate!  In the car on our drive to the party, she announced she would be eating a chocolate donut with sprinkles ... luckily for her, there were a few of those there, in cute mini-donut size.  I'm not sure where she got that idea exactly but apparently she had thought about it.  I believe this is her 3rd time to have a donut in her life!  And she does enjoy them!)

The big birthday girl ... Happy 4th Birthday, Ryllie!

our awesome indoor playscape ... Kendall's absolute favorite place to play these days!  She can't wait to have her birthday party here, too!  (Just 5 more months to wait!)

Sweet Little Besties!  This is Kendall's first little best friend ... each time they see each other, they run to hug! So sweet!

After an early nap, we left for Grapevine ... for an afternoon of more fun!  We had planned on going to the Grapevine Mills Mall for a special movie showing of Disney's Beauty & the Beast (one of my all-time favorite movies growing up).  It was just digitally restored & re-vamped into a 3D movie, but it was only in the theaters for 3 weeks ... and this was our only Saturday to go see it!  We had a little time before our matinee time slot, so we stopped by the Sea Life Aquarium with our season passes.  We finally saw Mr. Sharky ... Kendall's been wanting to take her picture with Mr. Sharky since our first visit, but we haven't seen him since then.  Of course, since we saw him today, she wanted to get her picture with him ... but just as it was our turn she decided she did not want to get near him ... I guess we are not ready for Disney World yet!

After the aquarium, we walked over to the theater to get our movie tickets ... they changed their matinee times for Saturdays and our 3 tickets were going to be full price for a 4:30 showing ... $33. For our own historical sake, because I know in the future ticket prices will one day be much much higher than this and I will only be further outraged at it and wish then the prices would be more like the prices back in 2012, ... at this theater, adult tickets $12 each, child tickets $9.  I also know that is probably pretty low in comparison to other parts of America, but still!  Now I know this may sound crazy, but I hate spending money at the movies ... I love to go to the movies, but I hate to pay their ticket prices!  For some reason, I just don't think it should cost $10 (and now, even more than that!) to see a movie ... per person!  Luckily for me, Daddy hates it even more than me so when we realized another theater had another showing (that was still a matinee) for a true matinee price, we left Grapevine and headed there ... which was closer to our home anyway.

We were in a rush, but we made it to the movie on time ... and the best part ... it cost us $10 total!  Now that's more like it!  Adult manatee tickets $5 each and kids 2 & under are FREE!  Hello, good deal!  Daddy was so happy he even bought popcorn (which totally made Kendall's day) and we still saved money from our original cost at Grapevine.  (But ... we (Kendall & Mommy) somehow knocked over our entire bag of popcorn only moments after getting it and the lady was so sweet to give us a new bag!  I'm pretty sure Daddy was really happy about that ... and so was Kendall, as she was in tears at the sight of all that yummy popcorn on the floor, that she had been so looking forward to eating!)  So, thank you Colleyville Cinema Grille ... for being more reasonably priced, for giving parents a financial break by not charging for kids 2 & under, and for keeping traditional normal matinee hours (movies before 6p), even on the weekends!  You Rock!  And that is why we visit you, when we get to go to the movies!

And we looooooved the movie ... since it's one of my all-time favs, we had it on DVD way before Kendall came along, so she had seen it a couple of times before.  But the new restored version was even better ... and it being in a big theater, made it even better!  We opted not to watch it in 3D ... we didn't think she would leave the glasses on ... maybe in a few more years we can try it.  She loved the movie all the same!

And we ran into Ryllie & her mom Angela there at the movie ... they were there for another little girl's 4th birthday party ... same showing time.  Isn't that a fun bday party idea?!  I maybe using that one in the future ... depending on the movie selection at the time, but I thought that was a fun one!

All in all, it was a busy but fun-packed day as a family ... one of my favorite kinds of days to spend with these 2 loves!  Although, I am thankful that tomorrow will be less busy family day.

Big Girl Gymnastics

Today was a big day for our little gymnast ... today was Kendall's 1st new gymnastics class ... big girls only ... no Mommys!  And I think she was a little excited about it!  And so was I ... and a little nervous, too ... hoping she would listen & obey to Coach Tammy and be able to do what she asks.

sweet little friends ... Kendall & Haley have so much fun together!  They are in the same preschool class this year and have been in gymnastics together since August.  They are both very excited about starting their new big girl class!

Waiting to go in ...

And their off ... her class of 6 girls with Coach Tammy ... Kendall, Haley, Morgan, Ryan, Ansley & Kinley (twins)

Kendall had the best time!  She just loves gymnastics so she always has a great time.  After doing their warm up stretches, they worked on the uneven bars and forward rolls (aka somersaults ... which is what we've always called them growing up).  She can't quite do a forward roll on her own yet ... she needs just a little push over.  After the class was over, Coach Tammy stamps everyone's hand ... and the girls ran out to the lobby, yelling Mommy, to show off their stamps!  I think this is going to be a great spring semester of gymnastics!

Happy New Year 2012

In the words of our sweet 2.5 year old, "it's PARTY time!"  Happy New Year ... 2012!

It's crazy to think that another year has already flown by ... it seems like we were just ringing in 2011 with our 21 month old ...

Yet, here we are, a year later, ringing in 2012!

We had a fun New Year's Eve party with Ashley's side of the family  ... well, those of his family that were in Texas, that is!  This has been an annual family tradition for the past 10 years now ... thanks to these 2 Lyde sisters, Aunt DeeDee and Mary Lee (Ash's mom).

Here's all the family in attendence, this year ...
Aunt DeeDee and Uncle Max

Lane's family ... Barbara, Audrey and Tyler

Aron's family ... Fritzie, Ashleigh, Kaelyn & Rylie

GranGran and Huni

Kendall had such a fun time playing at Aron & Fritzie's.  She loved being with all the girls & Tyler ... her cousins.  She stayed plenty busy playing with all their toys in their fabulous play room and going up & down their staircase about a thousand times!

The cousins exchanged Christmas presents and surprised Kendall with 2 presents, too ...

Kendall opened up a fun new game (her 1st game) Zingo from Aron & Fritzie and the girls  and a "fur real" white puppy dog (that barks, walks & wags her tail) from Lane & Barbara and the kids.

Kaelyn got the new game Headbandz (the Disney version) for Christmas, so a few of us played the 1st game ... Aron, Fritzie, Kaelyn, me and Audrey.  It's a super FUN game and being the Disney version it was perfect for us, since that is about all our families watch these days, with so many sweet little girls!  I am overjoyed to announce that this Mommy is the reigning champion (of the 1st game) for 2011!  (After midnight, the whole gang played the next game and this time Audrey won ... so she is the current champion of 2012.)  It's a really fun game and a must-have at your next family gaming event!

After we got the kids all fed and settled in with a movie, the adults feasted on a fantastic meal ... our normal new years tradition!

The whole gang split up boys vs. girls (as usual) to play another favorite game ... Taboo.  We played and played until it was time to ring in the new year.  Kendall stayed up with the big kids, so we left shortly after 12 midnight to get her into bed!

Happy New Year 2012 ... We are looking forward to seeing what this 2012 brings!  May the Lord continue to bless you this year!
