happy Memorial Day weekend

This year, we spent Memorial Day weekend in Abilene ...
Estee flew in to DFW Friday night to stay the night with us and then, Saturday morning we loaded up & headed West ... so we could meet & hold our precious new 10 day nephew (Kendall's newest cousin), Tucker Alan Perkins!

As soon as we pulled into town, we picked up a special treat for lunch (to-go) ... the best bar-b-q. ever. ... Harold's Bar-B-Q!  If you ever find yourself in Abilene, this is a great place to eat!  (Joe Allen's BBQ is also a famous, popular spot, and we like it too ... but Harold's is our favorite!  We even had them cater our wedding rehearsal ... that was nine years ago ... but Harold's has been around since the 1970's!)  We brought lunch over to Rachel & Michael's ... so we could see everyone!

making' a lunch pit stop at Harold's ... a must-visit in Abilene!
E loves Harold's too and had to buy some of his
famous bbq sauce to take back to Florida with her!

I'm one happy "Aunt Xis" (that's as close to Alexis as Mason
could get when he first learned my name) ... getting to see &
hold my newest nephew Tucker Alan ... nearly 2 weeks old!

sweet baby Tucker (and his little blankie
from me & E) ... not too long ago,
we used Kendall's own blankie this way
but now she loves to snuggle with it!

Auntie E holding Tucker

Mason was sooo excited to see all of us ... and Kendall was very excited when she saw Mason (and Sassy their dog, as well ... really, the feeling was mutual, as Sassy could not get enough of our sweet Kendall)!  There was lots of playin' & toy swappin' between these 2 cousins ...

Seriously, who needs toys when you've
got a comb?  This girl is teeeeeeething!

After spending the afternoon at Rachel & Michael's, we settled in at my parents' Grams & Pops ... had a family dinner and played some more ... til all 3 of the kiddos were worn-out & all the adults were too!

Pops & Grams and Auntie E ... at our family dinner

tea party ... Kendall started to "pretend drink" from her
little tea cup over the weekend

We enjoyed spending some "awake/alert time" with Tucker!

Kendall & her Pops ... quite a pair!

my cutie-patootie nephew & his beloved baseball hat!

Legos for everyone ... "Uncle Ashie"
built Mason an airplane

Mason building his "tall tower"!

Even Kendall joined the Lego fun ...
she sat herself right in the middle of all
of them and picked up a few to chew on.

Silly girl.  Crazy hair.

Sunday we went to Southern Hills (where my family still attends), had lunch all together and then the girls disbursed ... E visited a friend while MawMaw, Mom & I went shopping ... and Kendall stayed home to nap (and I think, her Daddy did a little napping of his own)!  We spent the evening over at Rae's (this was Michael's first time to fly since Tucker was born) to keep her company and play with all the kids!  Kendall had a fussy night ... waking up several times (which is very unusual for her) ... and in the morning, we found out why ... she had cut 2 top teeth!  (And you can see the other 2 top ones will be coming very, very soon as well!)

We drove back home on Monday morning ... Memorial Day ... dropped off E at the airport for her flight back to Florida ... and then enjoyed some time in the pool!  We started Kendall in her little baby pool, but then transitioned her into the pool ... us holding her, kicking her feet & then using her new little floatie for the 1st time ... and she LOVED it!  After sitting up in her floatie for a while, she decided she should relax ... and laid back & chewed on some of her toys ... she is so funny!  (These are the best pictures I got ... unfortunately, the hot pink sun shade cast some funky color onto her, so we'll have to reposition it the next time, so she's not got a red-tint to her skin coloring.)

Happy Memorial Day!

the end of school!

This school year is now officially over ... Thursday and Friday were both 1/2 days and Kendall & I picked up the boys at 11am (instead of 3:15pm) ... we made the most of our time and did extra fun things to celebrate them finishing the year & movin' on up to 2nd grade!

We went swimming on Thursday ... and went out to lunch at McDonald's & then went swimming on Friday ...

Eli ... one of the boys that I've been picking up after school

Christopher ... one of the boys that I've been picking up after school

Kendall & Kristen (Christopher's older sister) came over to hang out with
us Thursday & Friday afternoon ... she loves Kendall & is a big help!

And Kendall sure doesn't mind the extra attention from her, either!

Zachary ... Eli's older brother who hung
out with us Thursday & Friday

1st swim time & more weekend fun

We had a fun weekend with my sister, Estee "Auntie E" coming to visit us and my parents "Grams & Pops" ... we had Kendall's birthday party, did some swimming, got pedicures & spent some time together ... we missed having my other sister Rachel & her family here, but they were busy enjoying their precious new baby Tucker, who's now 1 week old!

Here are some snapshots of our time together on Sunday (after we recovered from Kendall's birthday bash on Saturday) ...

Cassie and her beloved red Frisbee ...
swimming & retrieving her Frisbee are 2 of her favorite things!
Jake (my parents' Chesapeake Bay Retriever) ...
about to jump in for his favorite item ... his ball!
Jake LOVES to swim!
Kendall not so happy at being splashed in the face by those dogs!

So, we decided it was our turn to enjoy the pool & we fenced the dogs out ... the water was cold so we just put our feet in ... but Kendall enjoyed swimming in her little pool very much!  This was her 1st time swimming ... I guess, if you can really call it that ... she was in her little blow-up baby pool with water that was more like warm-bath water (instead of the cold pool water), but she was outside, very near our pool, wearing her darling little swim suit (that she received as a birthday present), playing & splashing in her little pool ... our Little Miss Birthday Girl was too busy at her party to change into her swim suit, much less go swimming, so Sunday was her 1st time out ... and she was all smiles!

Cassie fenced out of the pool ... I'm lovin' our new fence!

During Kendall's afternoon nap, my mom, sister & I went out for pedicures ... and it was wonderful!  We came back to pick up Kendall & the guys for dinner at Mercado Juarez ... yummy!  Just before Grams & Pops (and Jake) had to drive back to Abilene, we connected with Rachel & fam via Skype while they were "rooming in" at the hospital with baby Tucker ... going home on Monday!

Monday afternoon, Kendall & I dropped my sister off at the airport so she could fly back home to Florida ... but she'll be back on Friday night for Memorial Day weekend with us in Abilene!  Thanks, Auntie E for coming to visit us for the weekend & all your work in making Kendall's 1st birthday party so memorable!
