Zoo Day with friends

Today, we enjoyed a slight drop in August temperature here in Texas and spent the day at the Zoo! It was a beautiful day and we had a great time with the Caton fam, checking in on all the animals we hadn't seen since May!

Kendall is really into babies ... of all types & sizes, so the baby giraffe, 3 lion cubs and baby chimpanzee were must see!

It's not a proper trip to the Zoo without a horse ride on the carousel and a train ride back to the entrance/exit!

Pops' Toy Story party

Today we celebrated Pops' big birthday!

Kendall loooooves birthday parties ... which is a good thing, considering her social calendar stays pretty full with those all year long! Lately she's been asking what kind of party the birthday boy/girl is having ... and she ooohhhs & aaahhhs over the details I can give her ... the theme, what they are doing, etc. Several weeks ago, I mentioned to her that Pops' birthday was coming up ... that we were going to Abilene for the weekend to celebrate his big day with him ... and then she immediately wanted to know "what kind of party"? My answer of it's just a birthday party ... we will be at Pops & Grams' house, eat dinner, sing him happy birthday, eat birthday cake & watch him open his presents ... was not sufficient enough.  She again asked, "But what KIND of party is it?" ... for which, I had no answer to suit her.  The next time she talked to Pops, she asked him about it.  He tried to answer her question with less details than I had given ... so after many more questions, he finally said "a Toy Story party" and she got VERY excited about that "like Tucker had!"

A week before his party, Kendall was talking to Grams about Pops & his Toy Story party ... something Grams didn't know about.  And apparently Pops had also forgotten to mention to Grams this important conversation with Kendall.  But Aunt Rachel had all the decorations needed ... and the Toy Story party was on!

Not sure who had more fun at Pops' party ... Pops or his 3 grandchildren ... playing with all of Tucker's Toy Story toys!

Happy Birthday, Pops!  It was a great party ... thanks for appeasing your granddaughter with the all-important birthday party theme!

School Supplies

It's that time of year again. Summer is nearly over (not the heat yet) but Fall is coming and a new school year is about to start. One of my most favorite things about a new school year ... the school supplies! And Kendall has joined right in ... the other day, Kendall yells, "Mommy, hurry! Come here!" ... as I get to the living room, she's pointing to a tv commercial ... all about school supplies. Oh the little things that make a girl happy!  Getting ready to start Kendall's 3 year old preschool class, we set off to find a new {bigger} backpack (that will actually hold her lunchbox & school folder) ...

She had a Princess one picked out immediately!  (This is the same one she had seen & picked out since June ... I had just made her wait to get it ... I knew more options would be available later, but that was her favorite one.) We've had a great summer, but she is so excited to start this school year ... and I'm just happy it's 3 year old two-day a week preschool and we're not sending her off to Kindergarten yet.  Two years until that day is NOT long enough for this Mommy!

Little Miss Dancer

This summer Kendall began her 1st dance class ... tap & ballet. And she loooooved it!  Since this class was just a 6 week session & no recital commitment, they had a "show off day" for parents.  Even Daddy took a break from work to come see Kendall dance for the 1st time.  She was so excited to have us come watch her dance.

This summer class was a great introduction into tap & ballet ... and she wants to continue so she can "dance on the stage" (at her recital).  And so, it has begun!

Sweet & Sassy Hair

After swimming the summer away, Kendall was overdue for her 2nd hair cut. She was very excited about it ... telling perfect strangers she was going to get her hair cut. We'd had a great 1st hair cut experience at Sweet & Sassy, so we booked another appointment there. They certainly know how to pamper a little girl ... and she loved every minute of it!

the BEFORE ...

and the AFTER ... complete with french braid headband, glitter spray, pink hair strand and glitter face paint

NICU Reunion ... 3rd edition

This afternoon we went to Grapevine's historic Nash Farm for Baylor Grapevine's 3rd annual NICU Reunion! It was really great to see all of Kendall's nurses & her neonatal specialist again.  (We didn't get to make a little visit to the NICU on her birthday this year, so it has been a year since we'd seen anyone.)  It was a hot May afternoon with plenty of fun things to do & special people to catch up with.  The NICU is getting a brand new building & will be moving in in July, so they had all the NICU-graduates make handprints on a big banner that will be hanging in their new wing, so we plan on going to see it later this summer.

Kendall was {mostly} all smiles for everyone & all the pictures ...

Kendall with her neonatal specialist Dr. Kappler ... who took great care of her {and us} while she was there for 8 weeks.

nurse Cyndy and Kendall's main nurse Kimbo ... this was our 1st time to see Kimbo since we left the NICU 3 years ago.  (She travels a lot and has been gone during each reunion & during the times that we'd visited the hospital, so we keep missing her.)

Kendall loved the train rides, bounce house, bubbles, balloons and pony rides!  She stayed busy running from one fun thing to the next!

just before we left, after we were completely hot & sweaty, we tried to take a better picture with our nurse Kimbo

We are so thankful for our NICU & the care that they provided Kendall {and us} for those 8 weeks.  God blessed us so much by providing us with my OB-GYN, that hospital, that Level 3 NICU and those doctors and nurses ... to take care of Kendall when we couldn't.  There will never be words enough to express our joy & thankfulness in giving Kendall the best start possible, given the circumstance ... and to witness each day all that God has done & continues to do to heal Kendall's tiny 2 lb 6 oz body and grow & develop her these 3 years!

We have now been to 3 NICU Reunions ... it's amazing to see how much Kendall has grown over these 3 years!   Here's a snapshot of her last 3 years ...

At our 1st reunion ... with nurse Kim & our charge nurse Susan ... it was our 1st time to see everyone in 3.5 months, after being with them every day for 8 straight weeks ... Kendall was 2.5 months adjusted/corrected old (5 months) ... October 2009

At the 2nd NICU reunion ... with our favorite awesome neonatal specialist, Dr. Sherri Kappler ... Kendall was 2 years old ... May 2011

This year's reunion ... with Dr. Kappler ... Kendall at 3 years old

Aloha, Auntie E

Today we said Aloha and Mahalo to our favorite Auntie E! My sister had to spoil Kendall one last time with breakfast on our front porch ... Chicken minis all around!

Kendall opened up her birthday gift from Auntie E & Uncle T when E first arrived, but we finally took pictures this morning ... our Little Hula Girl!

Then we were off to the airport ... we helped Auntie E inside to get checked-in and to say a proper good-bye.  It will be a loooong time until we get to see her again ... we all cried as we watched her leave.

Thanks for coming to visit us!  We had a great time ... we miss you already!
